Leicestershire captain Ramnaresh Sarwan has returned home to the West Indies to receive treatment for an ongoing back injury.
Sarwan had featured in just five championship matches because of his back problem, and his place in the team as an overseas player will now be taken by the former New Zealand allrounder Scott Styris.
"I am naturally very disappointed to have had my season cut short at Grace Road," Sarwan said. "It has been a frustrating time not being out in the middle with the lads and I want to wish all the players and the coaching staff the best of luck.
"I am confident that this time to recuperate and undergo my rehab will give me the best possible chance of representing the West Indies in next year's World Cup and I have my eyes set on returning to county cricket in 2015."
In Sarwan's absence, Styris is likely to lead the team in their Royal London Cup clash against Essex. Styris had been signed by the team earlier in the year for the NatWest T20 Blast.
"It's a massive shame that Sarwan's injury has restricted his performances for us this year," Phil Whitticase, Leicestershire's director of cricket, said. "Ronnie is a high class player and we would like to wish him all the best in his rehab as he looks to fulfil his dream of playing for West Indies again."
