KARACHI, March 2: Pakistan captain Wasim Akram on Sunday suggested that festival matches can be organised and the income from
those games can be contributed to Prime Minister`s Debt Retirement Programme.
"All the income from sponsors and gate can be contributed to the
fund. I announce my availability to take part in that scheme and
I have the support of other players as well," the allrounder
said.
Akram said while the other citizens of Pakistan were contributing
from their sources of income, the players were willing to make
humble contributions through their income which was from cricket.
"Millions of rupees have been generated whenever leading players
have taken part in fund-raising matches. I am sure this can also
be done," the skipper added.
He said whether those fund-raising matches were held or not, the
players have decided to donate their match fees in the programme
from the first match they will play in Sharjah.
"We are ready to contribute more by playing in festival matches,"
Akram added.
