Peter McGlashan, the Northern Districts wicketkeeper, has set a New Zealand first-class record by effecting 12 dismissals in a match. McGlashan took six catches in each innings of the Plunket Shield fixture against Central Districts in Whangarei, as Northern Districts won the game by nine wickets inside three days.
Incidentally, McGlashan's feat is a world record for the most catches taken by an individual in a first-class match. Seven of his catches came off the bowling of Graeme Aldridge, who took 11 wickets in the match. The world record of 13 dismissals (stumpings included) was set by Zimbabwe's Wayne James for Matabeleland against Mashonaland Country Districts in Bulawayo in 1995-96.
McGlashan was congratulated by New Zealand Cricket chief executive Justin Vaughan. "This is a huge achievement for Peter to break the world record, and I am sure he is very satisfied," Vaughan said. "The Northern Knights bowlers also need to be congratulated on their efforts - a keeper can only catch those edges that are presented to them."
