Mr.Monga, you are a godsend to people like us who cannot be at the ground as we do not live in Kolkata these days and also as we are rather old. Your write up is vivid,so real and so brilliant with the minor details. I laughed reading that you wiped your seat clean daily. Well Mr.Monga certain things will never ever change in that city and in Eden Garden. We used to take rag cloth every day to clean our seats in those days (1950 to 1970) of our test match viewing.
Excellent piece Monga... Great work..
Sidhart, that was such an emotional piece of writing! Reading about Sachin makes me remember my childhood and makes me feel still young. Your writing certainly made me feel so. Though I am a regular reader of cricinfo articles, I never took the little pains to write a comment. But somehow after reading this article I couldn't stop myself from writing this. Keep going!!
brilliant write up!!
The article is about SRT the man and it made great reading. It has always been a great wonder to me as to how someone can remain so balanced in the midst of infectious mad ness which surrounds him almost all the time. It is a wonder that Tendulkar had not fallen for the adulation and started having notions of being a super human. In my view apart from the great talent that set him apart, one great quality which was superhuman was never to fall in a trap of thinking that he was in fact superhuman and being grounded all the time. It could have been so easy to fall in to that kind of trap when one is repeatedly told he is great
An awesome article... I am a big fan of Sachin and the fact that he is going to be off the field is really heart breaking. Cricket without Sachin is like life without water. Just loved the way you have re-created those 3 days of 199th Sachin test. It nearly brought the tears in my eyes. Going to miss the Master a lot. Luv U Sachin. God Bless U for whatever you have done for us. May U live Long.
Very nicely written, for the most of it, that is. However, one correction: Hooghly is NOT A TRIBUTARY OF GANGA. Please spend the time and go find what it is.
Thank you Siddharth. I almost had tears rolling down my eyes! It almost transported me to the Eden Gardens and those 3 days!
siddharth, wow, simple and profound, like the great man himself. Keep up the good work and keep appreciating the finer aspects of the game and its players as well as the rest of us!
very very good player in India and salute him
