Kemar Roach has been ruled out of the Boxing Day Test in Port Elizabeth, after the condition of his ankle worsened over the last two days. Roach only bowled 15.5 overs on the first day of this Test, and did not bat in either of West Indies' innings, as his team ended up losing by an innings and 220 runs.
Although he remained "in high spirits" according to West Indies' media manager Philip Spooner, severe swelling and pain when he puts weight on the right ankle could even see Roach take no further part in the series. The West Indies' management will take a call on whether Roach returns home by the end of the day.
West Indies, meanwhile, have brought in Narsingh Deonarine as a replacement for Assad Fudadin, who had withdrawn with a finger injury.
That brings to four the total number of niggles in the West Indies camp since the tour began. Chris Gayle, who was in South Africa playing for the Lions, had to pull out of the series with a back problem before Roach and Fudadin were injured, while Jason Holder, one of the reserve bowlers, also picked up a wrist injury. West Indies' resources were already depleted before the series, as Darren Bravo had chosen not to join the squad in South Africa for personal reasons.
