Scorecard
Western Australia had the upper hand at the end of the penultimate day despite conceding a first-innings lead of 45 runs, as New South Wales were left struggling at 5 for 65 in their second dig.
New South Wales lost wickets at regular intervals, David Moody, who recorded a four-for in the first innings, and left-arm spinner Ashton Agar claiming two each. Agar had first-innings centurion Peter Nevill caught-and-bowled for a 17-ball duck off what turned out to be the last ball of the day. Opener Scott Henry had by then ploughed his way to an unbeaten 37 off 118 balls.
Western Australia were in a bothersome position themselves, resuming on 5 for 158. It took a 120-run partnership between captain Adam Voges and Sam Whiteman to take the visitors within striking distance of New South Wales' total.
But, after Voges departed, the lower order lent little support to Whiteman, who eventually became the last batsman to be dismissed when he was stumped off Nathan Lyon's bowling.
