Toss India chose to bowl v Sri Lanka

India won the crucial toss on what was expected to be wet and a stop-start day, and expectedly asked Sri Lanka to bat first. It s widely considered to be the thing to do on days when rain and Duckworth-Lewis are expected to make frequent visits. The start was already delayed by half an hour.

India went in with the same XI for a fourth match running. Sri Lanka, though, made changes, but these - unlike the ones they made in the World Cup final - were not inexplicable. Dinesh Chandimal faced a fitness test, and Sri Lanka called in two half-batsmen to make up for his absence. Jeevan Mendis, a spinner on a rainy day, and Thisara Perera came into the side. Shaminda Eranga had to make way.
