Western Australia fell short of Queensland's 266 by one run at Bankstown Oval but that made no difference to their position at the top of the group and their spot in Sunday's final. Queensland will have to beat New South Wales in the elimination final on Friday to earn a title showdown with Western Australia.
Western Australia were 1 for 191 in the 40th over when Craig Simmons was bowled by Jason Floros for 98. They needed 76 from 62 at that stage. Michael Klinger fell to Cameron Boyce for 66 in the 44th over.
It came down to 14 needed off the final over with Sam Whiteman and Ashton Turner in the middle. Ben Cutting began with a wide and was hit for four by Turner before bowling another wide. Four were needed off the last two balls but Whiteman and Turner were able to manage a single each.
Usman Khawaja had made it successive centuries after Western Australia chose to bowl. Khawaja, who made 166 against Tasmania, scored 120 off 129 and shared an opening stand of 151 in 29.1 overs with Chris Hartley, who contributed 64.
Queensland let slip a position of 1 for 214 in the 39th over and lost 6 for 52 off the final 11, Nathan Rimmington taking 4 for 43.
