Wellington bowlers rout Central Districts

Wellington's bowlers, led by offspinner Jeetan Patel's 4 for 11, bundled out Central Districts for 109, setting the foundation for a comprehensive, six-wicket win.

Patel's career-best effort had support from Brent Arnel (2-19) and Luke Woodcock (3-24) as they struck regularly to limit Central Districts. Will Young and Kruger van Wyk were the only two batsmen to score in double figures before Young's dismissal triggered off a collapse that saw Central Districts lose their last eight wickets for 48 runs.

The low total meant that Wellington were never stretched in their chase despite the loss of a few wickets. Stephen Murdoch's unbeaten 28 saw the side home in the 17th over.

An unbeaten 44 from Ryan ten Doeschate helped Otago gun down 142 with four deliveries to spare against Northern Districts in Wellington. Otago lost Aaron Redmond early in the chase, but recovered through a 56-run stand for the second wicket between Sam Wells and Iain Robertson. However, two quick wickets, coupled with Wells and Michael Bracewell retiring hurt, meant that the team were soon precariously placed at 90 for 3, with 52 needed off 34 balls. But ten Doeschate hammered a four and three sixes during his 30-ball knock, ensuring that Otago won with five wickets left.

Earlier, Northern Districts, opting to bat, had made 141 for 5 from their 20 overs. Their innings was built on a 44-ball 49 from the opener Daniel Flynn, and a 22 not out from Daryl Mitchell which gave them a late surge. James McMillan was Otago's most economical bowler, ending with figures of 4-0-14-1, while Bradley Scott collected 2 for 27.
