Rob Newton's century was in vain as Glamorgan claimed a 10-wicket victory over Northamptonshire at the Swalec Stadium to move up to third in Division Two of the LV= County Championship.

Newton added the 11 he needed to complete his hundred on Wednesday but his dismissal for 107 prompted a collapse from 199 for 4 to 269 all out, leaving Glamorgan a victory target of 56.

Openers Will Bragg and Jacques Rudolph easily knocked off the runs to complete a big victory despite 115 overs being lost in the space of the four days due to rain.

It was Glamorgan's second victory in a row, following on from their win over Essex two weeks ago, and the first time they have claimed back-to-back success since beating Kent and Middlesex in 2011.

Northants resumed on 163 for 4 and Newton moved into three figures in the eighth over of the morning with his 16th four.

He and Adam Rossington defied the Glamorgan attack for 57 minutes before Rudolph brought Meschede into the attack.

The bowler vindicated his captain's decision with his second ball as Newton played on to his stumps, and on three other occasions Rudolph changed the bowling the bowlers struck in their first over.

When Andrew Salter was brought on, Ben Duckett, who had struck four successive boundaries, got a leading edge to mid-off, and the young offspinner then produced a beauty that turned and bounced, which David Willey could only edge to slip.

Rossington played another sensible innings, reaching his second 50 in the game before he departed for 55 after fatally sweeping at Salter, who took his third wicket to end with match figures of 6 for 69.

Rudolph could do no wrong and when Ruaidhri Smith was summoned he duly obliged by having Rory Kleinveldt caught off a skier to wicketkeeper Mark Wallace.

When play was prolonged through the lunch interval with nine wickets down Chambers was dismissed which left Glamorgan with a small victory total, one they cantered to with ease.
