Tim Phillips, the Essex left-arm spinner, has announced his retirement at the age of 33.
He made his debut in 1999 and went on to forge a reputation as a versatile one-day cricketer. In List A cricket he claimed 94 wickets in 88 matches, with an economy rate of 5.19, and in T20 took 65 wickets from 82 appearances. In first-class cricket he finished with 132 wickets at 45.56.
He was also able to contribute with the bat - such as his 13-ball 33 against Middlesex in the T20 this season - and was used in a variety of positions
"Tim has been a very loyal member of our squad over the years, and was a key part of our successful one-day teams," Paul Grayson, the Essex head coach, said. "I would like to thank him for all his years of service, and wish him the best for the future."
Phillips said: "I have enjoyed my career and the friendships I have made during my 16 years representing Essex but I am really excited to start a new challenge. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the club all the best for the future."
