Indonesian umpire, Shahul Hameed, made his One Day International (ODI) debut last week in the two match series between Holland and Sri Lanka.
Hameed, a veteran of East Asia - Pacific regional tournaments and a member of the EAP Umpires Panel, stood along side long time ICC umpire Steve Bucknor from the West Indies during the matches played at Amstelveen in the Netherlands
Hameed's appointment came following a recent ICC umpires training seminar in Dubai, where the ICC reorganised its previous Associates and Affiliates (A&A) Umpires Panel to ensure a more effective and efficient structure was set in place for the future progression of umpires from the developing cricket world.
Along with five other umpires from ICC Associate and Affiliate member countries, Hameed was appointed to the newly established A&A International Umpires Panel that supplies umpires for ODI matches between Associate and Full member countries.
Over the past 12 months Hameed, who resides in Jakarta, has also officiated during the ICC's U/19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka, and was selected to umpire the final of the ICC Trophy in Ireland.
ICC East Asia - Pacific Regional Development Tim Anderson said,
"This is outstanding achievement that we are all thrilled about, and we congratulate Shahul on the hard work and dedication he has demonstrated to reach this level.
"The fact that an umpire from Indonesia, an Affiliate member country of the ICC with a population of over 200 million people, is now umpiring ODI matches is another example of cricket's global spread beyond its traditional boundaries."
